San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools recently honored 958 students who are candidates for the California State Seal of Biliteracy during three regional in-person ceremonies. There are a total of 2,467 students throughout the county have met the rigorous criteria set by the state. A high level of proficiency in speaking, reading and writing in one or more languages, in addition to English is part of the criteria.
“Earning the California State Seal of Biliteracy will provide so many incredible opportunities for our students, and is just one example of how San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools supports students from cradle to career,” said Ted Alejandre.
Normally, candidates for the California State Seal of Biliteracy are honored at the end of the school year, but County Superintendent Alejandre recognized the importance for high school seniors to include this accomplishment on their college applications.
There are 17 eligible districts in San Bernardino County that are participating in the 2023 California State Seal of Biliteracy Program, and there are 16 diverse languages have been represented throughout this year’s ceremonies. Language assessments have be made accessible for school districts within the county, so every senior candidate studying a second or third language has a chance to qualify for the California State Seal of Biliteracy.
