The City of San Bernardino is undertaking a major paving project on a nearly 3/4-mile section of 5th Street between E Street and Waterman Avenue to improve the roadway and provide a smoother, safer driving surface.
Work began Monday, August 31, and, weather permitting, will continue for the approximately two weeks. Most grinding and paving will take place at night to minimize impacts on traffic.
PROJECT SCHEDULE
August 31–September 3 (5:00 pm–5:00 am)
🔹 Crews will grind approximately 2 inches of asphalt along the entire stretch of 5th Street
between E Street and Waterman Avenue.
🔹 Crews will repave 5th Street between E Street and Waterman Avenue.
September 4–9 (7:00 am–5:00 pm)
🔹 Roadway striping will be completed.
🔹 Utilities will be raised to grade.
🔹 Traffic signal loops will be reinstalled.
🔹 Note: Alternating lane closures will be necessary during daytime work.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down, use caution around construction crews, and allow extra time when traveling through the area. Please follow posted signs and traffic-control directions.
