SBCUSD Seeking New Members for Citizens' Oversight Committee

SBCUSD Seeking New Members for Citizens’ Oversight Committee

The San Bernardino City Unified School District is accepting applications to fill four positions on the Citizens’ Oversight Committee (COC), the volunteer group that reviews expenditure of bond funds to ensure they are used exclusively for the construction, reconstruction, remodeling or replacement of District facilities.

The vacancies include two openings for business owners or community members active in organizations like chambers of commerce, two for parents who are active in school groups, like PTA, and one opening for a senior citizen who is active in a group that advocates for older adults. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and live in the District’s attendance boundaries or prove they operate a business in San Bernardino or Highland. Knowledge or expertise in school construction or finances is not necessary.

The committee is made of nine members who review expenditure reports to ensure that bond proceeds are expended only for the purposes set forth in the respective ballot measure and that bond proceeds are not used for any teacher or administrative salaries or other operating expenses of the District. Members serve two-year terms and are expected to attend four quarterly meetings a year.

Interested applicants can view the requirements as well as the past activities of the COC by visiting the Facilities website. Applications are available here. Interested applicants can also Contact Budget Analyst David Sierra at  [email protected] or (909) 388-6100.
