CSUSB online program named after Jack Brown

Cal State San Bernardino plans to name its online bachelor of arts in administration program after Stater Bros. Markets.

Officially, the program will be called the Stater Bros. Markets Online Bachelor of Arts in Administration Degree Completion Program in the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration, according to a statement on the university’s website.

The university’s board of trustees unanimously approved the name in May.

Brown joined State Bros. as it president in 1981 and was named chief executive in 1986, ultimately running the company – the largest private employer based in the Inland Empire – for 35 years. He died in Nov. 2016.

The program, which will be taught by Brown College faculty, will make it easier for Stater Bros. employees, and Inland Empire residents in general, to receive their bachelor’s degree.

“We’re honored to be working with our long-time supporters, Stater Bros. Markets, in this program that will provide a great opportunity not only for its employees, but also for Inland Empire residents to earn a bachelor’s degree and ultimately help enhance their futures,” said university President Tomás D. Morales in the statement.
