College District board vote tabled; requests new plan

After hours of testimony Thursday, including many comments by hosts and management at the station, the idea of reducing the $1.2 million dollar subsidy currently being paid by the San Bernardino Community College District to keep KVCR afloat was tabled.

San Bernardino Community College District Trustee John Longville made an impassioned motion that interim Chancellor Torres should form a new plan.

The board agreed.

The request for a new plan includes keeping KVCR operating at the expense of the college district for the future.  It was also a clear that the board favored the idea that the NPR programming that the station pays for would also continue.

The new plan has with no timeline or budget direction, but board members hope that the station could be integrated into the college to better train students for media careers.
