El Rico Pollo is an authentic family-owned Peruvian gem

Peruvian cuisine is not easy to find in the Inland Empire.  It isn’t even that easy to find in Southern California, even with the significant influence of Latin American Culture in our region.  Perhaps it is because the food is so unique.

Fortunately, San Bernardino has a family-owned Peruvian restaurant located on Hospitality Lane that is simply wonderful!

El Rico Pollo has been in town for many years and happily, they have survived the many challenges of the past year to continue serving their customers authentic Peruvian dishes at reasonable prices.

I ordered the Saltado de Pollo, a dish of sauteed chicken with red onions, tomatoes, soy sauce, vinegar and cilantro, served over a bed of French fries and with a side of white rice.  French fries are a staple of Peruvian Cuisine, not as a side but as part of the main dish.  As the marinade for the chicken is quite strong, the fries mellow the seasoning perfectly.  El Rico Pollo also serves their dishes with a green chili sauce that adds a spicy kick to the meal if you prefer the hotter variety of food, and I very much do!

I also recommend the Inca Cola with your meal which is a Peruvian drink that reminds me of a light cream soda.  It is also very helpful in neutralizing the chili sauce.

The service at El Rico Pollo has always been very good and exceptionally friendly.  Between the outstanding cuisine and the great service, you will truly enjoy a visit to San Bernardino’s own Peruvian Restaurant.
